Zining for your life
6 days of instruction · All materials provided
As we all navigate these times of increased isolation and polarization, art making continues to be a vital community building and uniting force. What better way to foster this spirit than through creating zines?
Zines are self published magazines or booklets associated with a long history of political organizing, community building, and making creativity and art accessible to all. Zines are often created using free or very cheap materials and can range in theme from exhibiting artworks, written poetry or prose, personal journals, information sharing, and so much more.
In our class, we’ll cover a new technique and corresponding theme each day, while providing time to work on the zines each day as well. Students will leave class with several zines, and will have the opportunity to show them off in an exhibition, trade with one another, and distribute them to the rest of the camp community at the end of the week.
No experience necessary… only willingness to show up and see what happens.
